What is Genmoji in iOS 18 and how to use it?

How to create Genmoji in iOS 18

Apple is bringing a host of AI features to your iPhone with iOS 18. Genmoji is one such feature, which has managed to grab a lot of eyeballs. Expected to arrive in beta sometime in July, Genmoji lets you instantly create a custom emoji when you can’t find an appropriate one.

If you’re curious about what Genmoji is and how to make and use it on your iPhone, you’re in the right place. This article will guide you through everything you need to know about Genmoji in iOS 18. So, let’s begin!

What is Genmoji in iOS 18?

Genmoji is an Apple Intelligence feature that lets you create customized emojis based on your imagination using simple text prompts. For example, you can use a prompt, like “happy cat wearing sunglasses,” to get an emoji of a cat wearing sunglasses. Or create an emoji of your favorite person based on their photo. Apple says you can then use these emojis as regular emojis, meaning you can add them to messages, use them as stickers, or as a Tapback reaction.

How to make Genmoji in iOS 18

Genmoji is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. If you have one of these devices, you can create a Genmoji using these steps:

  1. Open the Messages app on your iPhone.
  2. Start a new message or go to an existing conversation.
  3. In the text field, write the prompt for your emoji.
  4. Tap the Create New Emoji prompt to start generating your emoji. You’ll see a bubble hovering on your screen, indicating that it’s generating your requested emoji.
  5. Once generated, you’ll see a few options. Swipe and choose your favorite.
  6. Tap Insert to add your new emoji to your message.

That’a all! With these simple steps, you can create as many Genmojis as you want and have fun in the chat!

As you converse with your family and friends, Apple Intelligence will understand the context and suggest concepts for creating Emojis. This makes emoji generation more relevant and effortless.

Tips to write better Genmoji prompts in iOS 18

To get Genmoji to create the best results, you need to write effective prompts. Here are some tips to help you do so:

  • Be specific! The more details you provide, the better Apple Intelligence can understand your imagination.
  • Start with basic descriptions like “happy face” to express your feelings.
  • Bring your emojis to life with verbs. Also, mix and match emotions and objects like “excited unicorn with rainbow.”
  • The Messages app provides personalized suggestions in real-time. You can use them or tweak them a bit to create custom emojis based on the context.

Be more expressive!

As you’ve seen, Genmoji helps you more expressive and elevates your messaging experience on the iPhone. While a stable version of the feature is set to arrive with the official iOS 18 public release in the fall, you may get to experience it on a compatible iPhone sometime in July when Apple releases it in public beta.

When will Genmoji be officially available for users?

According to Apple, Genmoji should be available in an upcoming iOS 18 beta version in the fall.

Can I use my Genmoji in other apps?

Right now, Apple Intelligence’s Image Playground model is only integrated into the native Messages app. So, Genmojis can only be used in iMessage chats.
