Upcoming Apple products in 2024: Ultimate guide

Apple is known for its amazing products that shape the future of consumer technology. In 2024, the Cupertino-based tech giant could launch several new devices to delight its ever-growing consumer base and challenge its competitors.

Based on reports from trustworthy industry insiders and leakers, I have put together a list of upcoming Apple products expected to launch in 2024.

What new Apple products are coming in 2024?

The new iPhone 16 models and Apple Watch series are expected to customarily be released in September 2024. But Apple fans may not have to wait that long for new devices, as the first big release of the year could happen as early as March.

March could see the announcement of the new OLED iPad Pro, the latest iPad Air, and refreshed 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models. So, there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months!

1. iPhone 16 lineup

iPhone 16 lineup

Just like every year, the iPhone is one of the most user-anticipated Apple devices in 2024. This year’s iPhone 16 lineup could feature larger ‘Pro’ models with new chipsets and camera upgrades.

According to a MacRumors report, there’s a possibility of a new Capture button that would accompany the Action button introduced with 15 Pro models. The new button would probably be located on the bottom right side of the device, allowing users to capture landscape photos and videos. Additionally, it could even be touch-sensitive, letting you zoom in or out with a simple swipe.

Since Apple is aiming to improve the photography-related features with the iPhone 16 Series, we can also expect to see an improved 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens with better low light performance. Moreover, the iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature a 300mm super-telephoto periscope camera for significantly better optical zoom and portrait photography capabilities.

While most major changes would be limited to the Pro models, we can still expect the lower-tier models to get some significant improvements. For example, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus could have a vertical camera layout instead of a diagonal one and could also let you capture Spatial Videos.

As far as the internals are concerned, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max would feature a brand new A18 Pro chipset. This new chip would be capable enough to run demanding machine learnig tasks to power new AI features expected to launch with iOS 18. However, the non-pro models are expected to get last year’s A17 series chips.

2. New iPad models

New iPad models 2024

iPads have been renewed with new and improved models almost every year. But 2023 was the first year since the iPad’s debut without any new models released. This suggests that Apple is planning to bring a major overhaul to the iPad lineup in 2024, something which is also backed up by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

For starters, the iPad Pro models are expected to feature M3 chips and OLED displays. On the other hand, the new iPad Air will reportedly be available in larger 12.9-inch and standard 10.9-inch sizes, probably with M2 chips and LCD displays to keep prices in check.

The entry-level iPad is also said to be renewed with a new 11th-generation model. This will allow Apple to phase out the ninth-generation iPad that still has a home button and allow the tenth-generation iPad to take its place. Not only that, Apple will reportedly release an updated iPad Mini as well.

Apart from the display and chipset, previous reports from Mark Gurman state that the new iPad will feature a landscape-oriented front camera, matching the 10th-generation model. Moreover, the new iPad Pro will be accompanied by a new Magic Keyboard with an aluminum top shell.

3. Apple Watch X and Ultra 3

Apple could unveil a slew of new Apple Watch models in 2024. This would include the Apple Watch Series X, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. While we expect the Apple Watch Series X and Apple Watch SE to feature a major design overhaul, the Ultra 3 would be more of a nominal upgrade.

Mark Gurman believes that the Apple Watch X would replace the existing band attachment mechanism with a magnetic one. This new mechanism would allow users to swap bands with ease. Additionally, Apple could also add a couple of new health features to detect hypertension and sleep apnea.

As far as the other two models are concerned, the Apple Wach Ultra 3 could finally become available in a darker color and borrow health features from the Series X. Meanwhile, now deleted reports from Omdia suggest that the Apple Watch SE could borrow the design from Apple Watch Series 9. They even say that it may get the S9 SiP and Apple Watch Series 4’s ECG feature.

4. Redesigned iPhone SE

2024 is expected to be the year Apple could launch a new iPhone SE since it hasn’t been updated for almost two years. As per industry insiders and leakers, this time around, the iPhone SE could receive a major redesign with a flat frame. Moreover, the thick bezels and Home Button will be phased out.

The iPhone SE 4 will most probably arrive with a 6.1-inch OLED display with a notch, which would make it the first iPhone SE to support Face ID. However, in order to keep costs low, the new model will only feature a single camera.

Fortunately, to make its budget offering a compelling option for consumers, Apple is said to equip the iPhone SE 4 with a USB-C port, possibly along with the new Action button, just like the flagship iPhone models. Further, it would also feature a newer chipset along with Apple’s custom 4nm 5G modem.

5. M3 Mac mini

The M3 series of Apple Silicon chips have been available since the end of October 2023 in newer MacBook Pros. However, it’s in 2024 that we might finally get to see the M3 chips make their way to Apple’s desktop-class Mac mini, which hasn’t received any upgrade since January 2023.

As per a report by The Verge, Apple is already working on the next-generation Mac mini, which will become available in early 2024. Based on the hardware specifications found in third-party developer logs, one of the new Mac mini models will likely feature an 8-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and 24GB of RAM.

7. New HomePod with a touchscreen display

New HomePod with a touchscreen display

The HomePod was first released by Apple in February 2018, with the HomePod mini following in November 2020. While Apple discontinued the original HomePod in March 2021, an updated version of the speaker was released in January 2023, suggesting that Apple has more plans for the smart speaker market.

In 2024, Apple could finally release a HomePod with a display to take on existing smart home devices from Google and Amazon. According to reports from Ming-Chi Kuo, the new HomePod would feature a 7-inch display.

Not only that, earlier reports from Mark Gurman have also suggested that Apple is working on a high-end speaker with a touch screen, which could possibly combine an Apple TV set-top box with a camera for video calling.

To add fuel to the fire, code seen by 9to5Mac in tvOS 17.4 beta 3 reveals the existence of a new device capable of running tvOS. This device, identified as “Z314,” seems to be powered by an A15 Bionic chip.

The code also reveals that prototype and production versions of this device are already under test, suggesting that the new HomePod has reached an advanced stage of development.

6. Next-gen AirPods and AirPods Max

According to Mark Gurman, Apple plans to bring a major overhaul to the Airpods lineup in 2024. This would include new non-pro Airpods (4th generation) and AirPods Max (2nd generation), which haven’t been abandoned by Apple since 2021 and 2020, respectively.

Apple’s highest-end audio product, the AirPods Max, will include a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port. Moreover, we might also get to see AirPods Max in new colors. Besides that, Apple would replace the H1 audio processor with an upgraded H3 audio processor.

This would allow the AirPods Max to offer better noise cancellation along with support for advanced features like Conversation Awareness, Adaptive Audio, and Personalized Volume.

As far as the non-pro AirPods are concerned, we may get to see two new models. The higher-end model would offer Active Noise Cancellation, but the lower-end model might skip this feature to keep the prices in check. Nevertheless, both the non-pro AirPods will look like a blend of the AirPods (3rd generation) and AirPods Pro (2nd generation) but with shorter stems.

Apple products released so far in 2024

We are only a couple of months into 2024, and Apple has released Tim Cook’s legacy device – the Apple Vision Pro.

We will be updating this space as more products get launched, but for now, here’s a brief about Apple’s new flagship product.

1. M3 MacBook Air (13- and 15-inch)

M3 MacBook Air 2024

As anticipated, Apple refreshed the 13″ and 15″ MacBook Air with the M3 versions in 2024, finally phasing out the M1 model released in 2020. While we didn’t get to see any new changes being introduced to the design of the entry-level Macs, the new models boast almost 20 percent and 35 percent better CPU performance than the M2 and M1 models, respectively.

The base M3 MacBook Air, just like last year’s model, offers an 8-core CPU and GPU, 8GB of Unified Memory, and 256GB of storage. However, you can still configure the machines with a 10-core GPU, up to 2TB of storage, and 24 GB of unified memory.

While the battery life is still rated to be the same as last year, the new models now support up to two external displays and come with Wi-Fi 6E, which offers download speeds up to twice as fast as the previous generation. Apart from that, Apple has also introduced a new Anodization seal for the Midnight finish, which will help reduce smudges and fingerprints.

2. Apple Vision Pro

Apple has gone completely overboard with its first mixed-reality headset. It offers an ultra-premium design with equally high-end specs, including an array of 12 cameras and 5 sensors, which feed their data to the M2 and R1 chipsets to create spatial experiences with its two high-resolution displays.

As for its software and user interface, the Apple Vision Pro runs on a brand-new spatial operating system dubbed visionOS. It offers a truly remarkable gesture and voice-based user interface, which is further enhanced by the headset’s eye-tracking sensors that can detect real-time eye movement and facilitate a new authentication system like Optic ID.

Apple Vision Pro became available in February at a starting price of $3499. However, If you want to know more about the headset’s hardware and its innovative features, check out our detailed article on Apple Vision Pro.
