(after 6 Loooong years)
On April 14, Google soft-launched 'Switch to Android' as an unlisted application on the App Store. That means it is only available through a direct link for download as of now. We were able to download and test the app!
The app enables users to wirelessly migrate data from iPhone to Android using the latter device as a hotspot. Similar to what Apple has done with its Move to iOS app.
The app can transfer many data types, including photos, videos, contacts, and calendar events, to a target Android device.
While the app assists you with steps, here's what you need to do:
➤ Accept terms of service ➤ Allow Camera access to the app ➤ Scan the QR code shown on the Android device
Turn off iMessage to receive text messages on your Android handset.
Note: You must do turn off iMessage across your Apple device.
Now, tap Start Request to request Apple to transfer a copy of your iCloud photos and videos. That's it!
Now, continue setting up your Android device.
The app works seamlessly on iPhone, you might struggle to get things going on Android as it is not yet prepared for the Switch to Android app’s availability.
The Switch to Android app is free and requires an iPhone running iOS 12.0 or later.
However, it's unclear when the app will be launched widely. We can only wait and watch.
To use the app yourself, tap the link below and download it.
