Evolution of MacBook Air over the years!

It's been 15 years since Steve Jobs introduced the first MacBook Air, and the fan-favorite product has come a long way.  Here's how it's evolved. 👉

As the world's thinnest laptop, it featured a 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and was the first Apple computer with an optional solid-state drive.  It was priced at $1,799.

2008 -  First MacBook Air

This mid-year update received a more powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processor.  It was priced at $1799.

2009 - With New Processor Old MBA

Along with the 13.3-inch model, Apple also introduced a cheaper 11.6-inch model.  Powered by 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors, the 13-inch variant started at $1299, while the 11-inch variant started at $999.

2010 - Little Air

MacBook Air was updated with Intel Core i5 and i7 processors that were much more powerful and affordable.  Prices started at $999 for the 11-inch variant and $1299 for the 13-inch one.

2011 - Air is affordable

With a 3rd Gen Intel core i5 or i7 chips, the new models came with 4 GB of RAM by default. The 11-inch MacBook Air cost $999, but the 13-inch Air was $1199, 100 dollars less than previous models.

2012 - More RAM

The first MBA with 512GB SSD. The 2013 MBA was powered by 4th gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.  The 11-inch MBA was priced at $999, and the 13-inch MBA was  at $1099.

2013 - Highest storage

As of 2015, the MBAs have not undergone many updates except for the new 5th Gen Intel i5 and i7 chips.  The 11-inch MBA was available for $899, and the 13-inch MBA was for $998.

Budget-friendly MBA

Apple discontinued the 11-inch MacBook Air and made only the 13-inch MBA available. The processor was upgraded to a 1.8 GHz 6th Gen i5 and i7 processor. It was priced at $999 and wasn't discontinued until 2019.

2017 - Goodbye 11" MBA

This 2018 Air got a new Retina Display and a narrower border, Touch ID, and several design changes. Under the hood, it had the 7th Gen Intel i5 processor with 8/128 as the base.  Price started from $1199.

2018 – Completely new MBA!

Introduction of true tone display with butterfly keyboard.  256 GB SSD became the base variant. It was priced at $1199.

2019 – Butterfly keyboard

On March 2020, Apple released the new MBA powered by 10th gen Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors.  In addition, it replaced the butterfly keyboard with a Magic Keyboard design and was priced at $999

2020 - Last Intel MBA

To everyone's surprise, Apple released a new MacBook Air with Apple's M1 processor, and a fanless design, the first ever on a MacBook Air.  All at $999.

2020 – Welcome M1 🤩

Apple updated the MacBook Air with the new M2 chip and fresh design. It was launched at the same $999.
